Mangaluru: Air India has strengthened the flight connectivity between Mangaluru and Mumbai by introducing a second daily flight from June 10. This recent development comes shortly after IndiGo’s addition of a third daily flight on the Mumbai-Mangaluru route on May 22, as announced by the airport authorities.

With both airlines now offering a combined total of five daily flights, the Mumbai-Mangaluru route has emerged as one of the busiest air routes in 2022, serving approximately 4.90 lakh passengers. The increased flight options provide passengers with greater flexibility and convenience in planning their travel.

The new Air India flight, numbered 1679, departs Mumbai at 12.40 pm and arrives in Mangaluru at 2.10 pm. The return leg, AI 1680, leaves Mangaluru at 2.50 pm and reaches Mumbai at 4.35 pm, ensuring convenient timings for passengers traveling in either direction. Another Air India flight, AI 679, departs Mumbai at 5.45 am and arrives in Mangaluru at 7.20 am. On the return journey, flight AI 680 leaves Mangaluru at 7.55 am and reaches Mumbai at 9.35 am.

The inaugural flight of the newly introduced service witnessed a total of 182 passengers on AI 1679, while 167 passengers departed for Mumbai on AI 1680. IndiGo has expressed its commitment to operating its third daily flight to Mumbai until the end of the current summer airline schedule, concluding on October 28. In a bid to cater to the rising demand, IndiGo has extended the availability of tickets for booking on this route until July 31.

The Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has experienced a significant surge in air traffic movements (ATMs) due to the increased flight frequency. Presently, the airport observes an average of 38 ATMs daily, accommodating approximately 5,000 passengers, both domestic and international, on a regular basis. This growth highlights the popularity of the Mangaluru-Mumbai air route and the convenience it offers to travelers.

In conclusion, Air India’s introduction of a second daily flight between Mangaluru and Mumbai enhances the flight connectivity options for passengers, complementing IndiGo’s existing services. The increased frequency of flights on this route is expected to benefit both business and leisure travelers. With more options and convenient timings, passengers can enjoy seamless travel experiences between these two cities.
