The Indian government takes a significant decision amid the tensions over the border with China. 59 Chinese applications which were available on Google play store got banned in India. These 59 apps, which are banned by the central government, include different categories of apps like for video calling, short video apps, beauty apps, e-commerce apps, news-related apps, apps like security and cleaners. These applications include TikTok, UC Browser, Share It, Club factory, UC news, Xender etc. The government has banned these Chinese apps under the IT Act 2000.

Indian security agencies prepared a list of suspicious Chinese apps, to the government to get them banned in the country. The security agencies also warned people to remove these apps from their mobile phones immediately. The concerns had increased about aspects related to data security and the privacy protection of more than 130 crore Indians. It is also noted that such matters also threaten the sovereignty and security of our country.

List of apps removed :

The IT Ministry said in a statement “As per the information available, these apps got engaged in activities which are dangerous to the sovereignty and integrity of India, security, security of the state and public order.” These reports state that these apps ‘steal users’ data and send them unauthorizedly to servers located outside India. The statement said that the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center under the Ministry of Home Affairs had also recommended a comprehensive ban on these malicious apps.

The Indian government had earlier prohibited the use of Chinese assets to upgrade the 4G equipment of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and contracts worth Rs 471 crore granted by the Indian railways to the Chinese company is also cancelled. Earlier recently, e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart were mandated to display ‘Country of Origin’ on their products, the country in which the product got manufactured.
