Guest posting is the practice of writing a blog or article and getting it posted on another site. If you’re a content creator, you’ve probably heard of it before.

You can start a relationship with some guest post services if you’re trying to find sites to place your work. Doing so is one way you might get noticed if you’re trying to achieve notoriety.

Let’s go over a few myths and facts about guest posting.

The Guidelines Are All the Same

    Guest Posting

If you’ve done guest posting on a website before, you might feel like the guidelines will be the same for any other blog you write. This is a myth.

Different sites might actually have dramatically different requirements, so be certain to pay attention to those. What’s right for one blog might get rejected by another.

    It’s Not Worth It Anymore

Some content creators feel like guest posting is not worth it anymore in the age of social media. Virtually anyone who’s serious about marketing knows this is incorrect, though.

Even though social media sometimes seems like a more direct way to reach an audience, that doesn’t mean that guest posting is a defunct practice. It’s still worth it if you’re trying to get your content noticed, especially if you’re trying to be regarded as an expert in your niche.

When You Post, the Job is Done

This is definitely a myth. Writing the post and getting it accepted is just the beginning. You’ll want to promote your post in any way you can if you want it to get plenty of attention. Mentioning it on your social media feeds, on podcasts, or anywhere else you can is the best possible strategy.

You Need to Avoid Controversial Topics

For the most part, this is true. You can talk about something and be passionate about it, but if you start venturing into territory that is clearly controversial, you run the risk of alienating your fanbase.

    It’s Too Time Consuming

This is false. While writing a good guest post does take up some of your time, it’s well worth it if you can get a lot of attention through what you write. Writing and promoting guest posts is every bit as good of a use of your time as a different marketing strategy.

You Can Make Industry Connections This Way

This is true. Writing guest posts is all about networking. If you can enter into a mutually beneficial relationship with someone who runs a website and is willing to publish your work, that often leads to additional opportunities somewhere down the line.

It Makes You a Better Writer

This is true as well. Writing guest blogs is a way for you to sharpen your skills as a writer since you’re creating content for a particular audience. Writing guest blogs gives you a chance to change your style when and if it becomes necessary.
